The essential of red light and near infrared light for human health

Light is crucial for our body, like water, sleep and food, light is essential for our cellular function and energy production, we used to be exposed to so much more light because our ancestors would be outside during the day, working in the sun and then at night or in the evening they would be around fire, both of those emit red and near infrared light.

But in today’s modern world, we spent 90% of the time indoors, we use artificial lighting, we are always stimulated by the blue light on our cell phones and computers. And studies have shown that it has a negative impact on our health.

It is just like malnutrition from a poor diet, we get mal illumination from poor light exposure, so since a lot of us spend most of our time indoors specially in the fall and winter, red light therapy is the great way to get those health benefits from light that so many of us are lacking, so yeah, light is very essential for humans, and our health is really depends on the right dosage of these.

5 types of bioactive lights

  1. Blue light: sets the circadian rhythm in our brain
  2. Far infrared: heats up our cells and acts on circulation
  3. UV light: allows us to synthesize vitamin D from the sun
  4. Red light: stimulates increased ATP production in our cells
  5. Red light: stimulates increased ATP production in our cells

This time we are going to only focus on red and near infrared light, there is some scientific research that’s been done on red and near infrared light and thousands of studies have been done on how red and near infrared light affect  human health in a positive way.

What are red near infrared light?

They are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and more specifically part of the spectrum of light emitted by the sun and fire and these wavelengths are bioactive in humans meaning that it affects the function of our cells

How do red and near infrared light work to benefit us?

While most other wavelengths are unable to penetrate our skin and the layers  of our body, red and near infrared light can reach deep into the human body and are able to penetrate into the cells, tissues, blood nerves, brain and etc.

Benefits of red and near infrared light:

Helps increasing energy

Helps maintaining healthier skin collagen production

Helps to relieve pain and weight loss

Improves muscle recovery and athletic performance

Improves mood and cognitive function,

Speeds up healing,

Improves metabolism,

Boosts testosterone,

Enhances fertility

Good for gums and eyes and etc.

Red and near infrared light stimulate ATP production in the mitochondria of the cells by interacting with an enzyme called cytochrome C oxidase our bodies are constantly using and making ATP in every cell for our bodies to function , whether we are sleeping, breathing, eating, moving or our heart beating, everything requires ATP, so to put it simply red and near infrared light can benefit our health by improving the efficiency of the cellular respiration process and helping our body to make and use ATP energy more effectively, it helps decreasing inflammation and  improving blood flow, so using a red LED panel brings the same benefits as the red and near infrared from sun light, without the excessive heat, the UV rays and the risk of over exposure from the sun.

The more effectively ATP is created, the better we feel and our bodies function
