Red light therapy cured my acne

I have been suffered from acne and angst, I couldn’t wear makeup as my face dotted with acne. As mineral makeup is great for acne-prone skin. I tried many ways, like using aloe and drugs, ask an expert at hospital, won’t eat chocolate or other sweet food, even dink less milk. I love sweet food so much. It’s too horrible for me to give up my favorite foods. But even I didn’t eat these food, the acne still come with me! One day, I learned about red light therapy.

What’s red light therapy

Red light therapy uses a specific natural wavelength of light for therapeutic benefits, both medical and cosmetic. It is a combination of light-emitting diode (LED) that emits infrared light and heat

How red light therapy works?

Red light therapy penetrates your skin, sinking through the outer layer (epidermis) through the dermis, down to the fatty layer.  Once it has reached that layer, the red light stimulates the skin cells.  That’s when the skin cells go back to their youthful purpose: producing plenty of collagen, elastin, and the other proteins that give young people such smooth, firm skin.  Help to rejuvenated skin. By increasing function in skin cells, those who utilize red light therapy often have healthier, better looking skin, which can help an individual not only look better but feel better about themselves.

Red light (wavelength 630nm-640nm) penetrates human tissue superficially, with approximately 80% of the energy being absorbed in the first 2cm. Red light energy has a significant effect on mitochondrial stimulation, which increases the production of ATP and in turn boosts fibroblast activity. This leads to an increase in cellular turnover, superficial circulation, and an anti-inflammatory emission.

Infrared (IR) light (wavelength 800nm – 900nm) energy penetrates tissue at a greater depth than the Blue and Red light. Approximately 50% penetrates to 8cm and decreases to less than 1% at 20cm (NASA study). Infrared energy is known to heat tissue and its effects are well documented for therapeutic pain management. For cosmetic applications, IR stimulates the NaK+ pump which increases cell membrane permeability; facilitating equilibrium of cellular pH, while increasing nutritional absorption and elimination of waste byproducts.

During phototherapy, you sit in front of an LED light panel for about 15 to 30 minutes. These lights may be blue, red, or both blue and red.

Phototherapy can bring down swelling and reduce the number of pimples in some people.

Light therapy at home

There are some products on the market for at-home light therapy treatment. In the last few years, light treatment masks and light devices have become popular.

Research suggests that these treatments can be effective — one small study found that using red light therapy did reduceTrusted Source the number of acne lesions on participants’ faces.

Light therapy devices for home use may seem a bit pricey (one popular treatment device is $30 for 28 days of treatment), but in comparison to the price of rounds of acne treatment in a dermatologist clinic, it is a cost savings.

Red light therapy may offer some benefits over alternative acne treatments for the following reasons.

  • It is safe as long as a trained practitioner administers it.
  • It is unlikely to produce long-term complications.
  • It does not involve antibiotics or other drugs.
  • It is appropriate for all areas of the body.
  • It is suitable for use with most other acne therapies.
  • It does not cause scarring.

For what skin conditions is red light therapy being tried?

Red light therapy is promoted as a treatment for some common skin conditions, including to:

  • Improve wound healing.
  • Reduce stretch marks
  • Reduce wrinkles, fine lines and age spots.
  • Improve facial texture.
  • Improve psoriasisrosaceaand eczema.
  • Improve scars.
  • Improve sun-damaged skin.
  • Improve hair growth in people with androgenic alopecia.
  • Improve acne.

How to use?

10 to 20 minute red light sessions three to five times per week at 6” to 12” for one to four months.

A good treatment program for acne, skin wounds, stretch marks, and mild scars will stimulate collagen production to soften and minimize visible signs of scars. However, older and/or deeper scars and skin conditions may require longer treatment for wound healing.

Red Light Therapy FAQs

A few other questions I had when I started researching red light therapy:

Is it safe?

Yes. Our Red light therapy is an FDA approved therapy and considered safe. In fact, the original research for modern red light therapy came from NASA. Red light devices were used to limit bone and muscle loss in space. They also discovered that certain spectrums of red light allowed plant growth (for food) in space.

Does it get hot? Can you tan with it?

No. It gets pleasantly warm but not hot. Red light is a different wavelength than UV light. It does not produce any tanning effect.

How long do the bulbs last?

The leds we use have a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

Red Light Therapy: Convenient At-Home Treatment

A high-quality LED device with both red and NIR wavelengths lets you administer red light therapy in the comfort and convenience of your own home.

Light therapy devices like the Shanglaite T6000 full body panel combine wavelengths in an exclusive R+/NIR format. This delivers the optimal spectrum of light and superior irradiance.

If you are experiencing the frustration of accelerated aging, suffering from chronic pain, or have a condition that has been stubbornly resistant to conventional treatment, you should consider light therapy treatment.
