    Frequently Asked Questions

We will answer some of your regular questions

How the Red Light Therapy work?

How Does Red and Near-Infrared (NIR) Light Therapy Work?

RLT red light→mitochondria in the skin cells can absorb these light particles→help the cells produce more adenosine triphosphate→collagen production, increasing mRNA in the cells→the cells respond better to damage and rejuvenate themselves→improving skin health, whitening skin.

A frequently asked question is, “How do red light and near-infrared (NIR) light create these effects?” We are familiar with how UV light works—it interacts with our skin to stimulate vitamin D production. We also understand how blue light enters our eyes and affects our circadian rhythm by influencing the suprachiasmatic nucleus in our brain, which regulates our 24-hour biological cycle along with the associated hormones and neurotransmitters.

Red light therapy (RLT) works by directing red light towards the skin, where mitochondria in skin cells absorb these light particles. This process helps cells produce more adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is crucial for energy. Increased ATP production enhances collagen synthesis and boosts mRNA levels in the cells. As a result, the cells respond better to damage and rejuvenate themselves more effectively, leading to improved skin health and a brighter complexion.

    Understanding Red and Near-Infrared Light

These mechanisms are well understood in science. But what about red light therapy and infrared light therapy?

Researchers have identified numerous physiological and biochemical mechanisms influenced by red light and near-infrared light. For those of us who want to benefit from red light and infrared light therapy, we’ll avoid diving too deeply into complex molecular signaling pathways. Instead, let’s keep things simple and clear.

Red light is visible to the human eye, while near-infrared light is almost entirely invisible.

How often do we use the Red Light Therapy?

How Often We Should Do Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy Treatments

Another question to answer is “How often should we do the treatment?” The studies all use different dosing schedules, but in general, the range is from two times per week to two times per day. Under normal circumstances, we use red light therapy 2-3 times a day, with each session lasting 20-30 minutes.

As a general approach, we suggest starting slow to assess our body’s response at first (with low doses of infrared light therapy done infrequently for the first few sessions) and then building up to 3-7 sessions per week.

As with the biphasic dose response (and with many other types of hormesis, like physical exercise, for example), note that it may turn out that too high of a frequency is detrimental. Although there is no consensus in the research yet, our hunch is that optimal treatment times are probably once every other day to once per day at the most. We personally do it every other day, because that’s what we believe will turn out to be most optimal.

    Red Light Therapy Benefits

Using red light therapy lights can provide a range of benefits, including improved skin health, enhanced healing, and increased energy.
